SMART HOME

Comfort, Indoor Air Quality & Security

What is considered a Smart Home? Put simply, it is a centralized control over comfort, quality and security and relative electronic components and their function within a home.

Any home can be smart to one degree or another by incorporating elements controllable via apps on your smart phone or self-automated devices set to schedules, etc.

Here are those standard categories of smart control:

1. Comfort:

While we enjoy our comfort foods, something like a smart refrigerator may fall under the category of ‘comfort’, but comfort items generally refer to temperature and quality control of our air and water. Products that can connect to Wi-Fi give us the ability to control them from our phones or tablets and help provide a greater level of comfort and convenience.

Comfort Control Items:

Smart Thermostats: Set schedules for comfort,  play music, monitor air quality, voice control, solve hot and cold spots in home all while being more energy efficient. Transform your thermostat to home health.

There are hundreds of thermostats ranging in price and features that can be custom tailored to you or your family’s wants and needs.

Smart Locks: It not only means no more fumbling for keys, they would allow you to unlock doors to guests when you’re home or away.

Ventilation Indoor Air Quality

2. Quality:

Quality is measured in what’s not in our air or water. One and two stage A/C components are designed to keep consistent temperatures but also recirculate air, which passes through filters. Additional air quality filtration devices exist along with water filtration/conditioning devices that remove contaminates.

Quality Control Items:

Smart Hubs: These could be anything from an iPad, Google’s Nest Hub among others, these help you control / monitor all your smart devices. In fact, by having a central smart hub you could eliminate your thermostat depending on the type of system you have.

Learning Thermostats: Over time, the device learns how to best keep your home for maximum comfort based on behavior.

Water Filtration & Conditioning Devices: NaturalSof provides isolated and whole-home filtration devices that treat your water (see water quality or water filtration under Zona Plumbing).

Home Security Mounted Tablet Control

3. Security:

This ranges from keeping unwanted guests or intruders out as it does early detection of hazardous conditions inside the home. This could mean wireless doorbells with high-definition cameras and cloud-based digital recording capability. It could include battery-powered photoelectric sensors to detect smoke or carbon monoxide in a home. All designed to increase home security.

Security Control Items:

Whole home water leak detection and automatic water shut off.

Smart Doorbell: Connected to Wi-Fi, these provide video surveillance or your home’s exterior and even provide spoken alerts.

Smoke / CO Detectors: Wireless, battery-powered smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that do more than just chirp loudly in the middle of the night, but send alerts to your smart phone.
